About Us

Lincoln Street Independent School provides an independent study option for students in grades Transitional Kindergarten through eight. Our school serves families in 14 districts within Tehama County along with the surrounding counties of Shasta, Trinity, Plumas, Butte, Glenn and Mendocino.

Our goal is to meet or exceed the quality of education offered in area classrooms, and to provide a program of excellence for students taught at home. Ours is a small school, with an average enrollment of 100 or less. Our teachers meet weekly or bi-weekly with students and their families to provide instruction and guide their learning. A well-rounded program is offered, with emphasis on the core subjects, and with opportunities to explore interests in the arts, the environment, and physical education.

We R.I.S.E. Together

At Lincoln Street School, R.I.S.E. represents more than the qualities we want to see in our students. It reflects the kind of school community we are working together to build.
R.I.S.E. stands for:
R – Resilient
We learn from challenges, adapt when things are difficult, and keep moving forward.
I – Independent
We develop the skills, confidence, and responsibility needed to take ownership of learning and make positive choices.
S – Socially Responsible
We understand that our actions affect others, contribute positively to our families and community, and treat people with respect.
E – Equipped
We build the academic, social, emotional, and life skills needed to be successful now and in the future.

Building a School Where Everyone Rises

Lincoln Street has been intentionally developing a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to make sure students and families receive the right support at the right time. MTSS allows us to look at the whole child, including academic progress, engagement, social-emotional needs, and other factors that may affect student success.
As we have developed this model, one idea has become increasingly important to us: student success does not happen in isolation. We all R.I.S.E. together.

Students R.I.S.E.

Our students are encouraged to become resilient learners, develop greater independence, demonstrate social responsibility, and leave Lincoln Street equipped for their next step. We celebrate growth while also providing additional support when students need it.

Parents R.I.S.E.

Parents are essential partners in the Lincoln Street model. As a parent-as-teacher school, we recognize the tremendous role families play in student learning. We want parents to feel equipped, supported, and connected to their child’s teacher and school team. When challenges arise, we work together to identify solutions rather than expecting families to navigate them alone.

Staff R.I.S.E.

Our staff are committed to continuously learning, collaborating, and responding to the needs of students and families. Teachers and support staff use student data, family input, and professional expertise to determine where students are thriving and where additional support may be needed.

All Means All

Our MTSS model is built on the belief that every student can grow and every family deserves support. Some students may need only the core supports available to everyone, while others may benefit from additional academic intervention, increased teacher contact, social-emotional support, or more individualized planning.
R.I.S.E. gives us a common language for that work.
